위스키계의 대기업, 디아지오가 소유한 싱글몰트 위스키 증류소들에서 매년 ’더 디스틸러스 에디션‘이라는 타이틀로 한정

판 마냥 출시하고 있는 라인인데 내가 구입한 보틀은,

라가불린 더 디스틸러스 에디션 2021

아일라 위스키들은 강려크한 피트 때문에 자주 찾진 않지만 아일라에서도 내 돈주고 사먹는 위스키가 몇 종류 있는데 라가
불린 16년, 보모어 18년 딥앤컴플렉스와 같이 셰리와 피트,스모크가 균형있게 잡혀있는 위스키들을 더러 찾아 마신다.

(막 고마피트인애들은 쉽게 손이 잘...???)

느낀바로는 라가불린은 피트보단 스모크가 좀 더 직관적으로 드러나는 편인데,

(아드백, 라프로익의 피트가 삤뜨!!!!!!이런 느낌이면 라가불린의 피트는 히흐~정도)

그래서 그런지 겨울에 생굴에 오이스터루지 해먹으면 더 맛깔지고 별미라고 생각한다.

(*가끔친구들이 피트와 스모크 차이를 모르겠다고 하던데 개인적으로 쉽게 구분하려면 조니워커 더블블랙과 아드백 위

비스티를 동시에 비교 시음 해보면 금방 알 수 있지 않을까 싶다.)

작년에 그렇게 신나게 생굴이랑 먹은 라가불린 16년이 바닥을 보여 여기저기 리쿼샵과 어플들을 기웃기웃 거리던때에,

뚜따해보면, 라가불린16년에서 느껴지던 초반에 짧게 파고드는 피트와 그윽하고 부드럽게 퍼지는 스모크의 그 결은 비슷

하다.

차이점이라면 건포도스러운 달큰함이 좀 더 강해졌는데 이게 애초에 셰리성애자들에겐 기분좋게 다가올 만큼 좋게 느껴진

다.?

16년과 숙성년수도 비슷해서인지 콱찌르는 알콜부즈나 스파이스도 크게 느껴지진 않는다.

잔에 따르고 시간을 적당히 주면서 한모금씩 넘길때마다 점점 더 달큰향 향이 퍼지고 끝에서는 짭쪼름까지 더해지면서 궁

극의 단짠단짠 완성.

피니쉬도 부들부들한 스모크로 안정적으로 목구녕과 콧구녕에 남는다.
개인적으로는 16년보다 맛있다고 느끼고는 있는데, 이게 그동안의 경험상으로, 피트위스키들은 에어레이션 따라 맛의 변

화가 큰 느낌을 많이 받아왔어서 이걸 오래두고 천천히 변화를 즐기며 마셔야할지, 지금 정도의 느낌에서 빠르게 호로로록

비워야할지 감을 모르겠다.

일단 이쯤에서 바이알병에 한잔 담아놓긴 해야겠다?

디스틸러스에디션 2022도 나왔던데 괜시리 걔도 궁금해지네...

I don't reach for Islay whiskies often because of their suuuper strong peat, but there are a few Islay whiskies I actually pay my own money for — I do seek out and drink ones like Lagavulin 16 and Bowmore 18 Deep & Complex, where sherry, peat and smoke are held in balance.

(The ones that are just straight-up pure peat... my hand doesn't reach for them so easily...???)

From what I've felt, Lagavulin tends to show its smoke more directly than its peat,

(if Ardbeg's and Laphroaig's peat is like "PEEEEAAAT!!!!!!", Lagavulin's peat is more like "hee-hehe~")

and maybe that's why I think doing an oyster luge with raw oysters in winter makes it tastier and a real delicacy.

(*Sometimes my friends say they can't tell the difference between peat and smoke. Personally, I think an easy way to tell them apart would be to taste Johnnie Walker Double Black and Ardbeg Wee Beastie side by side — you'd get it right away.)

Last year, when the Lagavulin 16 I'd so happily enjoyed with raw oysters was starting to show the bottom, and I was poking around liquor shops and apps here and there,

Oh!? And the age is similar to the 16!? (Roughly 15 years of maturation)

Whoa!? But it's cheaper than the 16!? (Bought for 164,000 won at the time)

Wait!? Whaaat?? I don't know what it is, but huh???? It's some kind of "Edition," you say!!?? I can never resist an Edition!! (No idea, it just says Edition, okay)

Once you open it, the grain is similar to Lagavulin 16: peat that digs in briefly at the start and smoke that spreads deep and soft.

The difference is that the raisiny sweetness has gotten stronger, and for sherry fanatics this comes across as pleasantly good in the first place.😋

Maybe because it's similar in age to the 16, you don't really feel any sharp, stabbing alcohol burn or spice either.

Pour it in the glass, give it a proper bit of time, and with every sip the sweet aroma spreads more and more, and at the end a savory saltiness joins in — the ultimate salty-sweet combo, complete.

The finish, too, lingers steadily in your throat and nostrils with velvety-soft smoke.
Personally, I feel it's tastier than the 16, but from my experience so far, peated whiskies tend to change a lot in flavor with aeration, so I have no idea whether I should keep it for a long time and slowly enjoy the changes, or slurp it down quickly while it tastes like this.

For now, I should at least save a glass in a sample vial at this point🤔

I saw the Distillers Edition 2022 is out too, and for some reason I'm getting curious about that one as well...
