Glen Garioch sherry Cask Matured 15years ABV 53.7%

최애 증류소 드로낙의 고향, 하이랜드의 숨은 맛도리 증류소, 글렌기어리.

실은 나도 기어리 경험은 글렌기어리 15년 셰리 캐스크 머쳐드(CS?)뿐이다.

소량생산하기도 하고 국내 정식 수입이 아니다보니 눈에 잘 띄지 않는다.

몰트바에서 잔으로 한잔 마셔보고 꽤 맛있어서 기회 될때 보틀로 들였었다.

예전에 마셨을땐 뒷 라벨에 CASK STRENGTH 표기가 되있었던걸로 봤는데 구매한 보틀은 표기가 사라져있다. (물탄겨?

안탄겨?)

하지만 물탔든 안탔든 크게 상관없게끔 도수는 53.7%로 섭섭치 않다.

꼬냑잔을 하나 사야되나...

뚜따 하고 코를 갖다대면 직관적으로 느껴지는건 굉장히 포도포도하다.

최근 마셔본 싱글몰트 중에 가장 포도스러움.

그 정도가 어느정도 수준이냐면,

우리 몰래 이 아자씨들이 브렌디나 꼬냑을 섞었나?
싶은 정도.?

(물론 섞었으면 싱글몰트위스키가 아니겠지만..)

그정도로 굉장히 직관적으로 포도네?포도여!

맛은 올로로소 풀셰리여서 그런지 적당히 꾸덕하고 와인의 탄닌감 정도의 떫음과 스파이시 사이 그 어딘가쯤이 느껴진다.

맛도 역시 포도포도??

그러나 그동안 마셔본 다른 증류소들의 올로로소 캐스크에서 느껴지던 그 느낌과는 다소 다르다.

글렌드로낙 18년도 올로로소 풀셰리고 이 친구도 올로로소 풀셰리인데 결이 전혀 다르다.

좀더 포도주스같은 상큼함과 달달함이 있다.

피니쉬는 그렇게 길거나 임펙트 있진 않지만, 여운은 살짝 남아있다.

피니쉬 끝에서도 역시 꼬냑같은 느낌이 나는 기분??

보틀 초반엔 알콜부즈가 살짝 치기도 하고,

개인적으로는 정말 브렌디나 꼬냑 스러워서 가끔 꼬냑 마냥 수증기로 데워 마시기도 하는데 훨씬 더 부드러워지고, 향이

진해짐이 느껴진다.

가끔 요래 마시면 개성있는 맛도리 싱글몰트???

만날천날 똑같은 증류소의 위스키 지쳐간다면 한번 도전해 봐도 좋을듯싶다.

홈페이지 가보면 르네상스 라인이 있던데 난중에 그거한번 도전해봐야겠다.

Glen Garioch sherry Cask Matured 15years ABV 53.7%

Glen Garioch - a hidden-gem distillery of the Highlands, the home turf of my all-time favourite distillery, GlenDronach.

Truth is, my Garioch experience is limited to the Glen Garioch 15 Sherry Cask Matured (CS?).

It's made in small batches and isn't officially imported in Korea, so you don't see it around much.

I had a glass at a malt bar, found it pretty tasty, and brought a bottle home when I got the chance.

When I drank it before, I'm pretty sure the back label said CASK STRENGTH, but on the bottle I bought, that's disappeared. (Did they add water? Or not?)

But watered or not, it hardly matters, since at 53.7% the ABV is nothing to complain about.

Should I buy a cognac glass...

Open it up, bring your nose to it, and the first thing that hits you is how super grapey-grapey it is.

The most grape-like of any single malt I've had recently.

How grapey, you ask?

Grapey enough that you wonder if these uncles secretly mixed in some brandy or cognac behind our backs.?

(Of course, if they had, it wouldn't be a single malt whisky anymore..)

That's how directly it goes: grape? Grape it is!

The taste, maybe because it's full oloroso sherry, is moderately thick, and sits somewhere between a wine-tannin-level astringency and spice.

The taste is grapey-grapey too??

But it's rather different from what I've gotten from other distilleries' oloroso casks.

GlenDronach 18 is full oloroso sherry and so is this one, yet they're completely different in character.

This one has more of a grape-juice-like freshness and sweetness.

The finish isn't especially long or impactful, but a slight trace does linger.

Even at the very end of the finish it feels kinda cognac-like??

Early in the bottle there's a bit of alcohol booze hitting you,

and personally it's so brandy- or cognac-like that sometimes I warm it over steam like a cognac, and it gets much smoother and the aroma gets deeper.

Drink it like this once in a while and it's a single malt gem with real character???

If you're getting tired of whiskies from the same old distillery day in, day out, it might be worth giving this one a shot.

I saw on their website that they have a Renaissance line, so I'll have to try that someday.
