아마 아는 사람들은 알겠지만 한 5년 전 즈음?
코로나가 본격적인 유행을 타기 직전의 그 언제쯤?
빌리워커 어르신이 글렌알라키 인수 후 오피셜 15년을 대박치고,
그 기세를 몰아서 처음으로 우드피니쉬 제품들을 선보였었는데,
초기 세가지 우드 피니쉬 제품인 11년 PX,12년 루비포트,13년 마데이라를 출시했고, 오크통 실험의 맛도리들로 입소문이 돌아 세가지 제품 다 빠르게 매진 되던 그때 그시절 빌리워커의 위대함을 느낄 수 있었던 제품들 중 하나인,

노즈에서 느껴지는 약간의 생강향, 뒤에 따라들어오는 포도향, 달딜한 과실들, 약한 시트러스

팔렛도 노즈와 유사한 결들의 집합. 약한 와인의 탄닌느낌, 생강,포도, 알라키 특유의 초콜렛 느낌이 팔렛에선 많이 안느껴지지만 밸런스는 좋게 느껴지는,

피니쉬는 길지 않지만 오히려 마지막에 느껴지는 알라키 표 초콜렛 그리고 옅은 과실과 스파이시.

출시 이후로도 몇번의 루비포트우드 피니쉬 제품들이 아류(?)로 나오긴 했지만 초창기 12년 루비포트우드 피니쉬 만큼의 만족감은 없었던 것 같다.

나름 천천히 아껴 마셨는데 이제 거의 다 비워져 가네.
사실 가격이 20만원 안쪽이였으면 좋을법 한데, 요즘 남아있는 제품들 시세들을 보니 20만원 초중반인듯하다.
그 가격대에는 좋은 위스키가 너무 많아서 고민 되긴 할듯.

그당시 우드피니쉬 제품은 다 만족 스러웠는데 요즘 오크통 실험 하시는 건 사실 좀 많이 터무니 없을때가 있더라구요 어르신.

오피셜 15년처럼, 10년 CS 8번 아래 배치들 처럼, 가격대비 마실수록 놀라운 제품들 늘 그리워 하고 있습니다. 어르신.

Somewhere right before COVID really took off?
After Billy Walker took over GlenAllachie and hit it big with the official 15,
he rode that momentum and released wood finish products for the first time.
He launched the first three wood finishes, the 11-year PX, the 12-year Ruby Port and the 13-year Madeira, and word spread about these tasty cask experiments so all three sold out fast. Back in those good old days, this was one of the products where you could really feel Billy Walker's greatness:

On the nose: a bit of ginger, grape following in behind, sweet fruits, faint citrus.

The palate is a collection of notes in a similar vein to the nose. Light wine-like tannins, ginger, grape. Allachie's signature chocolate doesn't come through much on the palate, but the balance feels good.

The finish isn't long, but right at the end you actually get that Allachie-brand chocolate, plus faint fruit and spice.

Since its release a few more Ruby Port wood finish products have come out as knockoffs(?), but I don't think any of them were as satisfying as the original 12-year Ruby Port wood finish.

I sipped it slowly and saved it, but now it's almost empty.
Honestly, it'd be nice if it were under 200,000 won, but looking at prices for the remaining stock these days, it seems to sit in the low-to-mid 200,000 won range.
There's so much good whisky at that price that it'd be a tough call.

All the wood finish products back then were satisfying, but honestly, sir, your cask experiments these days can be pretty absurd sometimes.

Like the official 15, like the 10 CS batches before No. 8, I'm always missing those products that amaze you more the more you drink, for the price. Sir.
