시그나토리 빈티지 익셉셔널 캐스크 16년 (100 프루프)

독립병입자 위스키들은 리스크가 있기 마련이라 바틀 구매를 꺼리는 편인데, 그럼에도 불구하고 구매했던 이유는,
첫째로 빈티지 익셉셔널캐스크는 시그나토리에서도 힘을 주는 라인이라는 느낌을 예전부터 받았고,
두번째로는 글렌리벳(추정)에 퍼필 올로로소셰리의 고도수라는것.

예전에 글렌리벳 13년 CS 대만한정판 배치1을 마셨었는데, 오피셜 라인들이주는 글렌리벳의 라이트하고 화사한 느낌보단 굉장히 찐득하고 개인취향에 쏙드는 맛있는 셰리 위스키로 뽑아내서 충격받으며 야무지게 마셨던 경험이 있었기에, 왠지 기대가 되어 구매하게됨.

독립병입자 위스키들이 뽑기운이 필요하다면 이번 뽑기는 성공이다.

노즈에서부터 불편한 부즈가 없고, 적당히 조린 과일의 향이 잔뜩 묻어져 나온다. 아주 옅게 빵같은 고소한 느낌도 있음.

팔렛에서는 고소하고 꾸덕달달한 올로로쏘의 느낌이 억지스럽지 않고 기분좋게 다가옴. 도수가 높은편이라 약간의 스파이시가 느껴지지만 불편함이 없다. 노즈보다 맛이 더 좋게 느껴지는 위스키.
맛도 향도 달큰한 셰리가 기분좋게 머문다.

근데 피니쉬가 약간 아쉽. 코와 혀에서 느낀 재미가 길게 늘어지진 않는다.
너무 초반에 기대감과 만족감을 잔뜩줘놔서 피니쉬도 크게 기대하게 된 탓일수도.

도수가 낮았더라면 더 실망감이 생겼을지도 모르겠다.
그래도 전반적으로 정말 만족감 높음.

또 사마시고 싶은 위스키!

천천히 비우면서 반정도 마셔보니, 에어레이션에 따른 변화는 크게 없는편같다. 좋게 말하면 안정적인듯.

Independent bottlings always come with some risk, so I tend to shy away from buying full bottles of them. The reasons I bought this one anyway:
First, I've long had the feeling that the Vintage Exceptional Cask range is a line Signatory really puts effort into,
and second, it's (presumably) Glenlivet, first-fill Oloroso sherry, at high strength.

A while back I had the Glenlivet 13 CS Taiwan Exclusive Batch 1, and instead of the light, bright character the official Glenlivet range gives you, it came out as an incredibly sticky, delicious sherry whisky right up my alley. I was shocked and drank it with total gusto, so because of that experience I somehow had high hopes and ended up buying this.

If independent bottlings require a lucky draw, this draw was a win.

From the nose there's no unpleasant booze, and loads of nicely stewed fruit come pouring out. There's also a very faint, nutty, bready note.

On the palate, that nutty, thick, sweet Oloroso character comes across naturally and pleasantly, not forced. Being fairly high ABV there's a bit of spice, but nothing uncomfortable. A whisky that tastes even better than it smells.
Both the flavour and aroma leave a lovely mellow sherry sweetness lingering.

But the finish is a bit of a letdown. The fun I got on the nose and tongue doesn't stretch out for long.
Maybe that's because it gave me so much anticipation and satisfaction early on that I ended up expecting a lot from the finish too.

If the ABV had been lower, I might have been even more disappointed.
Still, overall I'm really very satisfied.

A whisky I'd buy and drink again!

Having worked my way through about half of it slowly, it doesn't seem to change much with aeration. To put it nicely, it's stable.
