비행기 탈때마다 면세점 가서 한병은 뭐살까 고민고민 여러번 후보에 뒀다가 매번 미아내를 외치며 데려오지 못했었던놈.
지난 5월 제주도 여행길에 돌아오는 길에 집어왔었다.

버번+나파벨리 까쇼 와인 캐스크 조합.
여름에 피트 위스키는 손이 자주가진 않지만, 그래도 1리터 짜리임에도 홀짝홀짝 마시다 보니 어느새 다 비워져간다.
그만큼 가성비가 좋았던 제품인듯.

아드벡의 NAS치고는 금빛 색감이 돌면서 상대적으로 짙다 싶은데, 라벨에 네추럴컬러표기는 없는 것이 그럼 좀 색감을 따로 줬나 싶기도 하고...그냥 까쇼캐스크의 힘인가 싶기도 하고...
그렇다고 색감이 막 인위적인 느낌은 아님.

노즈에서는 와인의 느낌이 꽤 나는데 코가 이상한건지 멍청한건지 까쇼캐스크라는데 화이트와인같은 느낌이 더 듬.
일부로 강하게 들이마시면 버번캐스크도 캐치됨.

맛도 살짝 탄닌끼가 강한 화이트 와인마시는 기분.
마실때마다 느끼지만 해산물이랑 페어링 하면 참 좋다.

생각보다 복합적인 맛과 향으로 오히려 피트향이 강하게 느껴지지않는다고 느껴짐.

이라 생각 할때쯤이면,

피니쉬에서 본격 피트, 스모키함이 잘표현되면서 길게 여운이 남는다.

정확히 구매 가격이 기억 안나지만 면세점에서 한 십만원 극초반?이였던거 같은데 가격에 용량에 맛까지 생각하면 꽤괞인듯.

다만 도수가 살짝 아쉽다.
코리브라칸 처럼 좀더 고도수로 뽑아줬음 좋았을듯.
근데 그럼 가격도 달라졌갰지?ㅋㅋ

해산물 페어링해서 가볍게 마시기에 좋음.
가리비찜이나, 대게찜.
낙지나 오징어도 좋음.
멍게랑도 잘 맞았음.

요즘 환율때매 면세점 구입도 썩 기분좋은편은 아니지만,
그래도 좋은 가격에 잘 마셨다!

The one I agonized over every time I flew - "which bottle should I grab at duty-free?" - putting it on the shortlist again and again, then crying "sorry!" and never bringing it home.
I finally picked it up on the way back from a trip to Jeju Island last May.

A bourbon + Napa Valley Cab Sauv wine cask combo.
Peated whisky isn't something I reach for often in summer, but even though it's a full liter, sip by sip it's somehow almost gone.
I guess that shows how good the value for money was.

For an Ardbeg NAS it has a golden tint and is relatively deep in colour, yet there's no natural colour statement on the label, so I wonder if they added some colour... or maybe it's just the power of the Cab Sauv cask...
That said, the colour doesn't look artificial at all.

The nose has quite a bit of wine to it, but maybe my nose is weird or just dumb - they say it's a Cab Sauv cask, yet it feels more like white wine to me.
If you deliberately take a big sniff, you catch the bourbon cask too.

The taste also feels like drinking a white wine with a slightly strong tannic edge.
Every time I drink it I think it pairs really well with seafood.

The flavours and aromas are more complex than I expected, so much so that the peat doesn't feel that strong.

Or so I think, right up until...
What am I even saying, it's Ardbeg after all - peat peat sniff sniff😤

On the finish the peat and smokiness properly come through and linger long.

I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was barely over 100,000 won at duty-free? Considering the price, the volume and the taste, it's pretty decent.

The ABV is a bit of a letdown though.
Would've been nice if they'd bottled it at a higher strength like Corryvreckan.
But then the price would be different too, huh? lol

Great for drinking casually with seafood.
Steamed scallops, steamed snow crab.
Octopus or squid work too.
It went well with sea squirt as well.

With the exchange rate these days, even duty-free shopping doesn't feel all that great,
but I still enjoyed it at a good price!
